What Makes Liquid Hawaii Different?

Mahalo for choosing to explore our island waters with us! Here’s everything you need to know before your adventure.

Why choose Liquid Hawaii?

At Liquid Hawaii, we’re the little guys — and proud of it. If you’re looking for a tour that avoids the busy crowds in Kona and feels more personal, relaxed, and truly local, you’re in the right place.

We grew up on this ocean, learned from the old-school captains, and have spent years working in the industry. We took the best of what we learned and built tours that feel more like exploring with friends than joining a big commercial operation.

We know the quiet spots, the clean water, and the places the big boats skip. Our goal is simple: give you a genuine, unforgettable experience with plenty of aloha.

Check out our reviews — our guests tell the story better than we ever could!

Do we always see manta rays?

We have one of the highest success rates on the island — over 90%! But as much as we’d love to guarantee mantas, they’re wild animals in a very big ocean.

What sets us apart is honesty. If conditions aren’t looking good — storms, murky water, wrong moon phase, or known low activity — we call you ahead of time and try to rebook you on a better night or a more active manta site. It’s rare, but it happens.

If we have to cancel because conditions look bad, you get a full refund.
If we go out and the mantas don’t show (also rare), we cannot offer a refund due to being a small operator — but we always try to help you find another night to go again.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • Full refund with 48 hours notice before your charter.
  • No refund for cancellations within 48 hours or no-shows.
  • Full refund if we cancel due to weather, safety, or unexpected conditions.

To cancel or ask questions, call or text us anytime at 808-854-5757.

Additional Questions Guests Often Ask

Where do you depart from?

Most tours leave from Kawaihae Harbor on the Kohala Coast. Your confirmation email includes exact check-in details, directions, and parking info.

Will I be warm enough on the manta tour?

We provide wetsuits, but the air can feel chilly after being in the water. Bringing a jacket makes the ride back way more comfortable.

Are manta rays dangerous?

Nope! Mantas have no stingers, no barbs, and no teeth. They’re gentle giants and Kona is one of the best places in the world to see them.

Do you provide snorkel gear?

Yes — mask, snorkel, fins, flotation, and a manta board. You’re welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer.

Is parking free?

Yes — Kawaihae Harbor has free parking close to the dock.

Can pregnant guests join?

Many expecting moms do great on calm daytime snorkels. For manta tours or rougher ocean days, we usually recommend sitting it out. Always check with your doctor first.

Can I bring a camera or GoPro?

Absolutely! Just make sure it’s waterproof and has a secure strap. We often take photos too — ask the crew!

Do you offer private charters?

Yes! Family days, proposals, birthdays, ash scatterings, custom snorkels, coastline cruises — you dream it, we’ll help you create it.

How big are your groups?

We keep our tours small and personal — that’s the heart of Liquid Hawaii.
Smaller groups mean better attention, safer snorkeling, and a more relaxed vibe.
